Three hundred trees were delivered to Knightsbrook Golf Club on Monday by Mr John O Reilly from Green Belt which sponsored The Knightsbrook Golf Club Carbon Footprint Project. Minister Shane McEntee was on hand to receive the trees with Captain Sean Ó Díomasaigh. Each member of the club will be allocated a tree which will be labelled and planted out on the golf course over the next number of years. ” This isa wonderful initiative on the part of Knightsbrook Golf Club and “highlights the need for people to continue to be conscious of their carbon footprint. Each tree will account for up to 3 tonnes of carbon during its lifetime and will offset a huge proportion of the carbon footprint of the members and the facility,” Minister McEntee said and he thanked Green Belt for its generous gesture. Accepting the trees on behalf of the members Captain, Seán Ó Díomasaigh said he hoped that “each member would watch their tree as it is nurtured over the years on the course.” He thanked Minister McEntee for his role in the project and Green Belt for the trees. Knightsbrook PLC, represented by Jonathan Cusack and Alan McEntee were also present and have supported the project enthusiastically. Members will be asked to make a voluntary contribution to charity when the tree is ready to be planted out on the course over the next number of years. The Captain thanked Ronan Carey for his preparation of the ground and his planting of the trees in their new temporary home just off the 7th tee box.
