The 6th Annual Cian Dempsey Memorial Golf Classic took place in beautiful sunshine at Knightsbrook Golf Club Trim on Friday last the 17th of May in aid of Aware. Forty Seven teams took to the fairways in support of this worthy cause, sponsored by Rodney Leonard , the Winehouse Emporium and Trim Off Licence and Matthew Leonard , Boutique Interiors, Market Street, Trim. Brian Ormonde and Ronnie Whelan joined the 200 golfers and praised the organisers for their efforts on behalf of Aware, It is hoped that €10,000 will be raised by the event. Ross Englishby, one of the main organisers of the Classic was a classmate of Cian Dempsey and this year he put a phenomenal effort into promoting the classic through social media. Many of his family were involved in fund raising through raffles and auctions and charity bucket collections. Mickey Harte and his band also gave their support by playing free of charge at the very successful and well attended social function and prize giving ceremony on Friday night. Ross Englishby thanked everyone for their support for the annual event which has raised over €80,000 for various charities since its inception in 2007. Speaking at the function, Seán Dempsey joined Ross in thanking everyone for their loyal support for the event every year. “Ross’s enthusiasm for the Classic has given the event a new lease of life and I’m particularly pleased to see so many young people here tonight to contribute to a charity which is in much need of funds” he said. The winners were Michael White, Paddy Collings, Connor Dempsey and Fergus Dixon.
