Hard luck to team manager Stephen Rayfus and his Junior Cup side who were beaten in the Final of the Matchplay stage of the Junior Cup in Edenderry GC over the weekend.
We won our semi-final match on Sunday morning against Mullingar GC after a tremendous (3/2) win.
In the afternoon, Frank Leonard, in match 5 & Ray Gleenon, in match 4, stood in for Ray Murray and Richard Wheeler.
Ger Flanagan went out in the first match and Mark Dowdall followed in match 2. Francis O Donoghue was placed in the middle match in 3.
In the final, Newbridge GC took control early in most of the matches and as hard as the lads tried in the top matches up front, we just couldn’t get back on equal terms to put Newbridge under pressure.
Although beaten in the final on Sunday all of the players, team manager Stephen Rayfus and Club Captain, John Tobin can take great encouragement from what was a terrific effort alround.
Panel: Alan Kirwan, Anthony Farrelly, Francis o Donoghue, Ray Murray, Ger Flanagan, Alan Lawless, Richard Wheeler, Frank Leonard, Ray Gleenon & Mark Dowdall.
Richard Wheeler, Mark Dowdall, Stephen Rayfus, Francis O Donoghue, Ger Flanagan & Ray Murray.

Birdie Sweep for Rodney
Congratulations to Rodney Trenwith for scoring two birdie (2s) in row on our Par 3 holes, 3 & 5, last Sunday morning. Rodney also had a look for birdie (2) on the Par 3, 18th hole, but just missed out narrowly as his penultimate putt lipped the cup from 30 feet.
Rodney was halfway towards matching Brian Lawless’ ‘magnificent feat’ when he scored 4 birdie (2s) on every Par 3 on the course in a qualifying competition a couple of years ago.
