Congratulations to all involved in what were two very successful Captains’ Prize days at Knightsbrook Golf Club. These were unique occasions for the club where both Lady Captain Marian Bucklety and Captain Gerry Ryan shared their big days and night in a joint celebration of their year. Congratulations to Mary Higgins, winner of the Lady Captain’s prize and to Seán Ó Díomasaigh on winning the Lady Captain’s prize to the men. Robert Westphal was the overall winner of Captain Gerry’s prize, in what proved to be an exciting competition over two days. The Captain thanked all the participants in his Captain’s speech. He also thanked the Men’s Committee for all the work it does throughout the year in ensuring that members have their handicap managed for the GUI, that competitions are well organised. He also

thanked the PLC, The ground staff and the Director of Golf and his staff. He said he was particularly pleased that the club held its first junior competition this year and praised the Junior sub committee for its work. “This year we have promoted senior golf in a formal way and I am very please that our daily re-entry competition, our seniors’ matchplay and our Senior Golfer gold the year competitions have been so well supported by the members and hopefully next year this trend will continue” he said. He also said that it was important that we record in pictures and by displaying various memoribilia throughout the clubhouse over the coming years. “This process has begun and will develop over the coming months and years” he concluded. Lady Captain, Marian Buckley extended thanks to all the staff at Knightsbrook and to her committee for all their work during 2014. Congratulations to Mary Higgins who won the Lady Captain’s prize and to Ann Geraghty who won the Captain’s prize to the ladies.
