Captain Colin McAllister and Lady Captain Elva Leavy drove into office in style in a DeLorean car on Sunday last watched by a very large number of members and guests. The celebrations began with a tea/coffee and refreshments reception in the clubhouse. Having planted a tree to mark the occasion, the captains received a pleasant surprise when a DeLorean car arrived and Captain Colin chaffeured the Lady Captain with chivarly to the first tee. Following a champagne reception and the usual presentations on the first tee both captains drove off with great encouragement from the large attendance. Members enjoyed a 9 hole Celtic Rumble competition followed by a mulled wine reception and buffet lunch. Both captains addressed the guests and wished all members a happy golfing year. The winners of the 9 hole competition were announced. This was followed by a presentation by the captains to Gavin Hunt, Director of Golf on behalf of the members to thank him for his outstanding contribution to the club over ten years and to mark his appointment as Director of Golf at Powerscourt Golf Club. Responding, Gavin thanked the members and paid tribute to the Cusack family for all the trust and support he received from them over the ten years he spent in Trim. “I have spent a quarter of my life in Knightsbrook and that has to count for something” he commented. He said the late John Cusack was a gentleman and he knew after his first meeting with him that he wanted to be part of the Cusack vision for Knightsbrook. He wished the members well and said he would miss Trim greatly but looked forward to keeping in touch with the club in the coming years.
