Captain’s Prize Day and Night proved to be a great success, a fitting tribute to Captain Raymond (Dicey) Murray who has led the club back to normality after two difficult years of Covid 19 restrictions. Following the qualifiers round on Sunday, August 15th, the forty qualifiers played the final round on Saturday afternoon August 20th. The final was preceded by a non-qualifiers Stableford competition. Members and guests joined the Captain and his family for a very enjoyable social evening and presentation of prizes followed by a night of music and dancing. The Vice-Captain, Alan Codd paid tribute to the Captain and praised him for his leadership during the year. In his address, Captain Raymond paid tribute to the committee for all its work saying ‘I’m only here because of them’. He said it was a pleasure to work with such a group of people whose only interests are golf and providing opportunities for members to play and socialise together. He thanked all the team captains and team members who represented their club during the year, the Proprieter, Peter Igoe, Ronan and his staff for all their work ensuring that the course is always in top-class condition. He congratulated all the winners and also thanked Kate, Ben and Adam in the shop and the catering staff led by Maeve. The Captain’s Prize was won by Donal Geraghty who spoke emotionally about his struggle with Covid 19 eighteen months ago and his life-long ambition to win a Captain’s Prize.
