Newsam Cup Final in Royal Tara GC
Firstly, I would like to thank our Captain John, Lady Captain Angela, Honorary Secretary Colin, members of the Committees and members of Knightsbrook Golf Club for all of the support and encouragement throughout our Newsam Cup campaign in 2018.
Rodney and I are extremely proud to have managed our panel of players through to the final. Unfortunately, it was not to be Knightsbrook’s day on Saturday. Having said that, our team have played with the honour, dignity and pride that our club has established over its short and storied interclub history.
Our first and second pairings of Thomas Renehan & Stephen Murrray and Dominic Martin & Noel Doran took their matches successfully to the 18th hole, playing fantastic golf in the process.
Our next two pairings of myself & Michael Cassidy and Eamon O’Brien & Alan Codd were not as successful and lost our matches.
In a drawn match position of (2 matches each) the Newsam Cup Final went down to the fifth and final pairing of Dessie Farrelly & Joe McGrane who faced an epic journey down the 18th hole all Square in their match. With a very large gallery in toe, the match finished on the 18th green in heartbreaking fashion by a slightly missed putt.
Rodney and I would like to extend a very sincere thank you to our panel of players and acknowledge the hard work and practice everyone put in. It was a very enjoyable experience and a pleasure to oversee such a great bunch of guys. We would also like to thank PGA Professional, Stephen Rayfus who offered his time and advice throughout our challenge.
We would also like to commiserate with our fellow members playing in their final of the North Leinster Mixed on Saturday. Another battle fought very hard, but unfortunately did not go Knightsbrook’s way in the end. Hard luck but well done to team managers, Anne & Damien and your team on getting to the final.
To all of our members, please keep participating and keep supporting interclub competitions in Knightsbrook GC. I firmly believe we’ll get there very shortly and our efforts will be rewarded with an interclub winning pendant.
Thank you to everyone again.
p.p.
Best regards,
Leonard
